Cocoon
Music has always been the helpful push I need to get words out of my brain, heart, and body & onto some sort of page. Sure, life inspires me to write, as does heartache, grief, love and the romantic-ness of life, but there's nothing quite like music (live or recorded) to get poetry swirling. If you ever see me at a show, I'm most likely zoned out writing poems in my head, reciting them over and over again.
This little poem was inspired by a recent Sunday night where I found some new, heart-wrenchingly beautiful songs. Hope you enjoy.
Love, Hannah

i am scribbling
fever screams
on bright pink
paper, it's
2 something
in the morning
learning how
to stay still
for a moment
twisted my
legs, fever
running
into this
new and
shiny life
candles flickering
star patterns on
the ceiling,
my eyes burning
like it's bright
in here
or something.
/
phone lights
hurt my brain
sometimes,
but i've got
a couple
missed
calls from
a lover who
says he rings
just to hear
my voice,
isn't that nice?
/
there's a
certain hum
his laugh
creates
like the
crackle of
a fire,
cutting silence
with the most
glorious warmth
in the middle
of the scary
night
/
but right now
it's cold, and
the fire pit
has flooded
maybe i'm
just going
through
the motions
or
maybe i'm
going through
something
either way,
these heavy
spring rains
have been
oddly
soothing
to erratic
heart beats
and
so many
other things.
/
sometimes
i think
i'm dreaming
could i be?
every time
i breathe
in air,
it's like...
how fucking lucky am i?
to hear laughter
that heats up
the belly
even when
things aren't
perfect,
/
even when...
even when...
even when...
/
these spring
declarations
have been
so many things.
